Description
A European e-commerce client is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to own their AWS platform as it scales past its first million daily users. You'll lead the reliability, security, and cost agenda — and have real authority to make the calls that shape how the platform runs for the next two years.
This isn't a role where you babysit deployments. It's where you raise the engineering bar for everyone else through tools, standards, and the occasional uncomfortable post-mortem. We need someone who treats production ownership as a craft.
Responsibilities
- Own AWS infrastructure across compute, data, and networking layers, with full authority over the architectural direction.
- Build CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling that engineers actually enjoy using — not just tolerate.
- Lead incident response and post-incident learning, including writing the post-mortems that lead to real change.
- Drive security hardening and SOC 2 readiness work in partnership with the security and compliance teams.
- Drive cost efficiency across the AWS estate without compromising reliability — including making the unsexy calls to delete things.
- Mentor engineers on production ownership, observability, and writing software that's operable from day one.
Requirements
- 5+ years in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles, including time spent on-call at scale.
- Deep AWS expertise across ECS/EKS, RDS, networking, and IAM — including what breaks first under real load.
- Strong Terraform and observability tooling experience (Datadog, Grafana, or similar).
- Strong scripting skills in at least one of Python, Go, or TypeScript.
- Track record of introducing platform improvements that engineering teams adopt voluntarily.
- Comfortable owning on-call rotation alongside the engineering team.
- Nice to have: Kubernetes at scale (EKS or similar), SOC 2 Type II audit experience, exposure to high-traffic e-commerce or retail platforms.
